Purchased an American Buffalo Commemorative set today and from the photos it is a beauty. It will be a birthday gift for my son, whom I am trying to get interested in coin collecting.

Currently he prefers to work the stock market for speculation and deposit in ING DIRECT for saving that that gives good interest and COMPOUNDS...

What are other collector's thoughts on the American Buffalo Commemorative? Is it worth investing in for future value?

I think everything is right with this commemorative. It's a great looking coin that happens to be an already well known design, and I think that the value has already risen to what it has because of that. I for one would love to own one but it is already out of my current price range (I kick myself that this one had to come out when I wasn't collecting and I missed it)I personally would say you stand to see at least as much appreciation in this coin if not more than most of the modern commemoratives.

Did you get the C & C set, or just the coin by itself?

I picked up the commemorative set in original OGP, the coins are BU and Proof. It comes with the COA. Beautiful set....

I bought the Uncirculated version when they first came out. Buying that way was a good investment. I think it's safe to say that the continuing demand will insure that the price doesn't drop, but I doubt there will be a dramatic increase from current values. I'd guess that these coins will see a modest increase over time.
