Hello,
I went into a coin shop in Austria today, I told the woman working there that I was looking for junk silver but she didn't understand me. How do I tell her junk silver in German or Austrian I have no idea xD
Thanks in advance!

You probably should say something along the lines of: Haben sie munzen fur silber preis? This means: do you have coins for spot?

Or:
Ich suche fur munzen das sie kunnen mir fur silver preis verkaufen.

I am looking for coins that you could sell to me for spot.

Um, last edit.

You should probably know that "junk silver" in other words coins for silver price are pretty rare in europe. It's not like the pawnshops in the US. This is mainly because in the EU there is a 20% VAT on silver.

No worries, if you need any more help i'll be around :P

Also, let me give you a small trade secret; You will have much better luck in Austria going to the "We buy gold" places. If you are lucky, they will just let you buy a bit of their lot.

Pheroow. Many of the staff in most Vienna coin shops speak English which shop were you in? From what you have said I am guessing you tried the coin store in Karlzplatz Ubahn station... they can be difficult sometimes.

One of the best, for your purposes is a small shop at the end of the Graben: By Julius Meinl( Supermarket), theres a small alley like street about half way up that street on the right is a small shop they will assist you looking for silver coins. More expensive is HD Rauch (actually on the Graben) which is almost opposite the plague pillar. If you are in Vienna on saturday try the Naschmarkt but don't trust the sellers too much...if you know what your looking for you can find some bargains.
