I was looking to purchase this for my type set but I have no idea what to look for when it comes to a fake. Can you tell me if anything throws up a red flag? These are the sellers images. Additionally what would be a decent price to pay on it? Thanks for any and all help.

I have no idea myself, but I'd also be curious to know what the experts think... Anyone?

Sorry, can't offer much help, but the photos don't look very good. I'd need sharp close-ups for starters. Just my .02

I actually bought 3 fake ones early this summer when I thought I knew enough. This one looks just like it. If the strike looks too perfect, meaning the points on certain parts should are too sharp, its usually fake. I studied the *%•¥ out of these. Ill upload pics if mine so you can compare. Plus the photos you have are not great

These were the best shots he could do. Asking someone who not into coins is the same as my wife asking me to take a picture of her clothes. A picture of the front and a picture of the back are good enough to identify it any more specific its not going to happen.

All I can tell is this is not one of the obvious fakes but that does not mean it is authentic. A lot to the fakes are struck from transfer dies and on planchets of the correct fineness. We are going to need much larger and clear pictures.

Buying a coin like this from someone who is not experienced with coins is like asking an accountant to give you a prognosis for an unknown illness. Why not negotiate with the seller to have it authenticated as part of the deal? If they decline, simply move on and calculate a less risky outcome. BTW, Ant76 you can edit any post of yours within 24 hours just by clicking on the pad/pencil icon above your post.

Quote: These were the best shots he could do When I hear something like that it's a red flag. Yeah, they might be the best he can do, and maybe not. It immediately ramps up the risk in the purchase. There are plenty of them out there for sale with great photos. Heck he could probably scan it better than the pictures. I'd pass.

Loan me a dime and I'll buy it for you.
Or I'll send you a repro California gold quarter I bought when I was 10.
