Hey guys, new to the forum and recently took up coin collecting.
I was searching through some old coins I've collected over the years, this one was found in my own garden a good few years ago metal detecting.

After doing a bit of research into the coin I noticed many didn't have a marking under the date, a closer look it seems to be the number 4?
I researched abit and found this article which seems very similar to my penny apart from the number being different.

Anyway I was hoping someone could possibly give me some more information at all?

This is a very scarce coin. Listed in Coincraft's Standard Catalogue at £300 in Fine and £600 in Very Fine. I remember reading an article about these die number pennies in 'Coin Monthly' years ago - that magazine has long since ceased publication and all my copies are in cardboard boxes in my loft, so I can't easily get to it. But a wonderful find!

Quite a bit of value then. What condition would you say this coin is in judging by the pictures? Thank you :)

A nice coin! A while back I was collecting the penny series and had a die number 3. They are scarce coins. I would say the coin is in only fair condition. The main issue would be checking that it has not got any corrosion that is going to damage the coin in the long run and that it is stable. I am actually getting back into the Victorian penny series so if you want to sell it let me know!

Congratulations Davey! As popular as pennies currently are and as rare as this one is, I suspect that there would be fierce competition for it if sold at a major auction.
