I recommend everyone read the piece I and my co-writers put together on the ANA rollout of the JFK gold piece. There are some very important points made in it that might effect collectors who bought or might buy the coins. http://www.coinweek.com/coin-clubs/...numbers-add/I'll stick around to answer any questions that weren't covered in the piece. I was at the ANA show and can speak from first hand experience. Edited by cc99999 08/22/2014 5:54 pm

CC99999, this is a very informative article. There are a number of disturbing facts that lead me to believe how money hungry the TPG's are. Along with the fact that people want the specific label on a "slobbered" coin. Last year at Chicago ANA the line was really long but not an interference.( Not sure what the early release was.) Maybe the $5.00 gold Buffalo.

Well doing the Math it does not add up, but remember these are an "Early Release" data presentation.

Quote: What's interesting to me is the pop report. check the table out. notice anything strange? Wasn't that covered in the article ? While NGC and ANACs required receipts to prove that they were obtained at the ANA convention, PCGS gfave out the ANA labels to any Kennedys that were grade at the convention regardless of where they were obtained. Some dealers/people got them at the Denver/Phila mint sale and then brought them into the ANA convention to be graded and still got the ANA convention label from PCGS. Hence the Pop. differences between what was sold at the convention and what was graded as sold at the convention.

'Extra coins' = resubmits... If it came back on Wednesday as a 69 from PCGS did the dealers crack it out and hope for a 70 the second time? At least to judge by the Baseball HOF, the money was in the 70s, with the 69s being poor step-children.

@Bstrauss3. I'm sure that this happened, but many of the coins responsible for the overage were likely sent in. I doubt there were more than 100 or so 69s anyway.

Interesting article thanks for sharing.
Why do you suppose the Philly First Day Pops are greater than issued? Did people really re-submit a 69 hoping for a 70 as suggested? That is a lot of money of grading fees for a label. I totally get grading classics but the modern 70 and label thing escapes my limited intellect.

Thank you for posting that article. I had heard some of that but there was more going on then I realized. I had planned on getting one of these but at this point I am going to let it go. I had heard how people were over night shipping coins to Chicago to get ANA labels. I knew the numbers would never add up. If they sold them everyday my thinking was about double would be graded as sold. I plan to save the $1300 and buy nice historical pre 33 gold coin.

For an expensive label that states purchased at ANA or purchase first day of issue.

keep in mind folks, unless ANACS misreported to us their pop numbers, their first day label was the rarest with only 30.

I would rather order this coin from the Mint and wait for it to arrive in OGP, than to pay outrageous prices for crazy paper labels with a plastic cover.
