I have 4 different DDR 1967 medals:

- Katharina Von Bora
- Wartburg 900 Year
- Junker Jorg (I think this is correct)
- Lutherstube

All are in silver.

Is anyone familiar with DDR 1967 medals? Are they .925 silver and 8,87g? Any sources besides the usual big German online sellers (such as MA-Shop)?

I can provide a pic but I think the description is enough.

Any help would be appreciated.

Always provide pics for the benefit of those who haven't heard of these before (like me!)!

For some reason the DDR gets automatically hotlinked to the site's Numismatic Glossary.
The author means medals issued from Deutsche Demokratische Republik (former East Germany).

Nalabrong, here are obverse and reverse pics of one of the medals. I'm not sure if I matched the right reverse with the obverse, as 3 of the 4 reverses are similar:

All medals are in a plastic case.

Yes, silver is right. Not sure whether 925 or something else though. The GDR issued those medals in different versions; here are 11 copper pieces: http://img.muenzauktion.com/polland...combined.jpg

This auction catalog lists 12 in silver, €100 altogether: http://www.tempelhofer-muenzenhaus....235x1323.pdf
(item #1289). The following ones, 1290/1291/1292, are packs of Cu-Ni medals: one lot (70 pieces) is €50, another one (140 pieces) is €90. The gold ones are more expensive of course; about €1,000 per medal.

And "Junker Jörg" was Luther's "pseudonym" while he lived and worked at the Wartburg. As for the country name; I don't know why it it would be " DDR" in English. :) Yes, that is the short version of the country name in German. But in English the full name was "German Democratic Republic", so "GDR" would make more sense to me. Plus, you won't get into trouble with this wrong linkification. ;)

Thank you for the catalogue link. it fills in some questions that I had. I was finding small bits of information from several sources. I might keep these 4 medals. I have a small collection of GDR coins which I am adding to when I find them.
As far as DDR and GDR, both are used here in the US to describe the former East Germany.
