I am interested in any information about this medal.The medal is 31/8" 8cm.Bronze struck medal with obverse showing central image of a man and a woman on a raft watching help coming from a distance,surrounded by 39 stars;date in exurgue July 26 1866. Reverse depicts allegorical figure of America seated, with eagle at her side and the Capitol building in the background, placing a laurel wreath on a sailor kneeling before her; surrounding legend. By joint resolution of congress to the rescuers of the passengers officers and men of the steamship San Francisco wrecked Dec.1853 testimonial of national gratitude for his gallant conduct.Paquet F.on obverse and reverse.The above information is from the New York historical society.They have one of these medals in the museum.I have found out that Paquet was a engraver at the U.S.Mint during this time period.When was the medal minted?
