I almost bought a Dansco 7000 but posts on another forum were very alarmist about how you NEVER get anything vinyl near your coins and specifically mentioned that album as a no-no. However, thousands of these albums have undoubtedly been sold and I can't find a single web reference about them causing any problems with anyone's coins in the real world. Surely the mylar in the cardboard would be enough to protect the coin from any potential risk of PVC reaction, wouldn't it?

Well anyway, I'm just trying to figure out a good album for misc collection. Can't seem to find the perfect solution.

I have several Dansco 7000 albums with the vinyl pages. These are what I use for my dark side (foreign) coins and other miscellaneous items. I have been using them for well over twenty years without incident. I keep the coins in 2x2 holders (staple all four sides) and I keep the albums in a climate controlled environment.

Thanks for the feedback, jbuck

Are any of your 7000 pages getting sticky or yellowing anything like that? You'd have to assume Dansco isn't going to use the cheapest stuff they can find like 99 cent shower curtain grade PVC.

No yellowing, no greasy-goo, no smell.

Dansco calls these pages vinyl, so we have to assume PVC. The problem with PVC is the plasticizers, and the problem with the plasticizers is that they leech out over time (that shower curtain smell) and chemically react. My understanding is that climate control helps prevent (or at least slow) the leeching. It is also my understanding that not all soft vinyl products are equal. Perhaps Dansco has sourced a batter page?

The only problem I have had with these pages is some sagging from heavier coins. I replaced those pages and shuffled the order a bit to distribute the weight better (so heavier coins are always on the bottom row).
