I consider Orphan's as a commemorative coin without its OGP and COA.

I do not mind buying orphans as long as I have already have the same item in OGP or slabbed. Plus I usually get a better deal buying an orphan, closer to spot prices.

Over the years I have picked up these orphans;
1986 S Statue of Liberty proof
1987 S U.S. Constitution Bicentennial proof
1989 S US Congressional Commemorative proof
1992 P Columbus Quence proof
1994 P Prisoner of War proof
1994 S U.S. Capitol Bi Bicentennial proof

Does anyone else have orphans in their collection?

Have a great day

I know I have some clad commem halves but I can't recall what they are.

I always liked the design of the 1994 POW dollar--it and the Vietnam are on my wishlist to acquire.

I've never really figured that the COA adds any value. It's just a printout anyone could duplicate or find and add to any coin. And I don't really want a stack of cheesy jewelry boxes around my house, anyway. So I actually prefer "orphans". I only have 1986 Liberty and 1991 Rushmore so far, though.

Actually, most of my commemoratives are 'orphans'. Many are in slabs....you call these 'orphans'? The other ones I bought just in capsules. When you come right down to it, the box and coa is nice, but is it really worth it? Anyone can open the capsule and switch coins or whatever. Just sayin'...

I would not consider graded slabbed coins as an orphan. The graded label is in lieu of a COA.

To be honest, all but 1 of my orphans are ugly. I have a couple with excessive hazing and scratches, maybe a pocket piece, and another that looks like a fire survivor. These are coins that most people wouldn't want.
