Hi,

I was looking at a local auction that will occur this Saturday and it had the following listings:
1) Jewelry mounted gold panda coin
2) Gold coin removed from jewelry mount - 1856 U.S. $2
3) Gutter fold U.S. $1 error note

I am familiar with a $1 and a $2.50 U.S. gold coin, but not a $2 gold coin. Is there such a thing or is this a misprint. I am also not familiar with a gutter fold $1 error note. What is that? I know this isn't much info to go on, but what would you bid on the above items? Any idea what the weight would be on the gold coins? Thanks.

James

If they are talking about US gold coins, then its a misprint.

The part about the US gold $2 is a misprint, ignorance, or a fake.

A gutter fold note. take a strip of paper, fold it in half. Take the top half and fold it back again so you now have the paperlaying flat with a small double folded area in the center of it. Draw a few lines across the strip of paper so that they cross the folded area. (A rubber stamp will show the effect even better.) This represents the printing on the note. Now grab the ends of the strip of paper and pull them so the paper unfolds. See how the lines or stamping are now broken by a blank area? That is a gutter fold. The paper was double folded, printed, and then opened. Some times opened between printings, sometimes opened after printing and before cutting, sometimes not opened until after cutting. The first two will be normal sized notes, the last one will be larger than normal.
