Never seen anything like it. Striking style and pattern indicate a medieval coin but the coin itself seems to be too crude to be of that era. I'm gonna guess modern replica/copy. What's the diameter and weight?

If you send me the files (maximum resolution, complete picture) I will prepare them for this post. Is it possible I see some runes on the first picture? Could it be lead?

I'm going with modern fantasy coin here.
1. The runes would make this an 800 year old coin at a minimum--the design is frankly too clean to be from that time period. Compare your coin to the various European coins from AD 500-1300.
2. Although the unicorn has been a common sight in folklore since the days of the Greeks, it usually took the form of a horned goat or deer. It was not envisioned as a majestic horse until around the time that people realized they weren't actual creatures living in the Orient. The unicorn on your coin just doesn't match up with how the mythical beast would have been portrayed by a Viking age coinsmith.
As for the actual ID of the coin, its maker might have hidden something in the runes. If you can identify them and transcribe them to the Latin alphabet, it might be the company that made your coin. Other possibilities include fantasy rune-based languages such as Tolkien's dwarf language.

I have to agree that it way to nice,in design and execution to be real old talisman, and since none of our member that are knowledgeable about the ancient coins have even given a hint that it that it might be from the land of Nod etc. Most don't know there is a large fantasy/sifi, token/coinage/medal collecting and maker group out there. They even have groups and a convention for the coiners. They use every means of making them from hand held dies, to automated equipment for large runs. Including used coinage presses. The smaller outfits try to make them as real looking as possible. From one man/women operations to large Chinese companies. http://www.osbornecoin.com/asp/page.asp?ID=1075http://www.bluewatersmint.com/check out the web store and the descriptions of the hand minting and locals about the coins. http://www.usns.info/links.htmlUnrecognised States Numismatic Society, from micronations to star trek. http://www.exonumia.com/comm.htmanother links page from soup to nuts and the fantasy brothel tokens, and old west badges Fantasy Coins for Board Games, RPGs, (roll playing games) LARP,(Live action roll playing games) or any occasion https://www.kickstarter.com/project...rsor=6649469A kickstarter fantasy mint Well you get the idea, google About 404,000,000 results (0.40 seconds) this morning for Fantasy coinage makers

Thank you all for your help with this.... heres a bit of info that may or may not help. It was found in the middle of a uk field at approx. 1 foot down in boggy conditions. It is well worn and has the same weight as a hammered groat.

I looked through one of my rune books, "Runelore" by Edred Thorsson & I recognized a few runes on the coin. Without seeing the coin in person it is hard to read the runes from the pictures.
The runes I recognized were: i, s, f, k, you & l
I'm no expert but I hope this was helpful.
I put a bid on the coin. If I win the coin & can read more runes I'll let you know what I find.

I've been out bid so far but I but a small bid just so I wouldn't forget about watching the coin. It's not the type of coin I collect but I'm interested by it so I'm not finished bidding.
I tried to edit my post from "you" to "u" (was tired when typed it) but it wouldn't let me edit what I had already posted.
