I got a small hoard of old one ounce bars. The weight is right, the height and width are right, but I swear these are 2.0 mm thick, whereas all specs I find online say 2.9. Do I have fakes?

You could. If you are talking about something that expensive, you should get them checked out.

Please keep us posted.

I purchased a fake coin from my lcs. Actually it wasn't fake, it just said something like contains 15 grains of .999 silver.

I have some testing stuff and it did ok (not great) with the magnet test. However, based on the dimensions, it should have weighed an ounce more to mimic sliver.

With your bar, the weight was too large for the area (assuming 2 mm)?

Are they just worn on the edges? I would recommend you calculate the area of the bar, and then see if the weight is within norm. Again, my fake actually looked pretty good, did ok on magnet, but got clobbered on the area/weight.
