So I decided that I want to start working on a vf/xf Barber quarter set. I have a like new old blue whitman album, copyright 1960. I wanted to ask, will this old album tone or discolor my coins? They are going to be circulated grades, but I'd rather not darker them up too much more. Would rather just go to a dansco if that's the case. Any thoughts or experience? Thanks!

I hqve several my dad bought from around then, though later in the sixties. No issues with the coins in them.

Very cool. Thanks SRD.
This one was actually gratis at a local shop... I'm sure you've been to the place.

Whew! Now there is a tough set! I know quite a few Barber quarter guys, drop me an email if you are looking for anything in particular. The album itself is only part of the equation. Keep em in a cool, dark and dry place, they should be fine. Here's a Philippine hoard date to get your adrenaline pumping!

The Whitman did not use the sulphur (mis-spelled) that the old albums did.
So, they should not effect your coins.
I have some in an old Whitman for years now, and no change to the color.
LogPotato: Nice piece.

I've been using Whitman Albums for as long as they've been making them. However, hopefully you mean ALBUM and not FOLDER. So many people get those mixed up. Those old Albums are perfectly safe. But I wouldn't trust those old Folders for anything more than a paper weight.

Why is that justcarl?
Yes, it's the album, not the folder.

The answer is YES, a 1960 Whitman will album tone your silver quarters. I keep my Barber quarters in Library of Coins albums which do not promote toning. But, here is my Washington quarter set. Every coin in this album has experienced some sort of toning. I actually like the toning on these Washington's:
