On E-Bay I seen a 1916 D Nickel that had the MM placed so that it was into the C in cents and it was listed as rare and offered for 300.00. I have a similar coin and need to know if the MM being this misplaced actually make a coin like this rare ?

AAAHHHHHhhh yes one of those rare DC mint coins.
Way back in the good old days the Mint marks were placed on the coins separately. Many, many older coins have all sorts of odd ball places where the Mint Marks appeared. Some are tilted left or right too. And this is also why so many are double and even triple Mint Marks known as RPM's or Repunched Mint Marks.
The only thing rare is the amount of whatever that Mint worker had for Lunch that day.

No. Not rare. Common. This is known as the 1916-D "imbedded D" variety. No significant collector value at all.
