How do you tell the difference between 100 Mon coins with the same characters from different Provinces? Is there a website some where or a book I could get?

Also, does anyone know how many different varieties there are?

I did check to make sure they had the stamps to be sure they are real. Good question though.

David Hartill's book "Early Japanese Coinage" is excellent. Highly recommended. You will learn more from that book than any websites.

Thanks for the referral. I went to Amazon & they had the book for $16.16 & I liked what I read so I bought it. It should be here in a couple days & I can't wait to get it now.

jcmworld. I forgot to tell you that the book "Early Japanese Coinage" arrived & it is indeed excellent. I like it better than the reproduction copy of "Coins of Japan" by Neil Gordon Munro. Thanks again for recommending the book.

The book did give several different examples for telling different Tempo Tsuho apart. It's a little difficult to tell on the coins themselves mostly but the book has been useful.

I've also found it very useful with my 1 & 4 Mon coins I have. Even helped with my Bu & Shu coins.

I also picked up a copy of "Japanese Coinage A Monetary History of Japan" by Norman Jacobs, Ph.D. & Cornelius C. Vermeulue, III, Ph. D. It's a good book too.

I still like "Early Japanese Coins" the best though.
