Since everyone enjoys Morgan dollars and hoards, here is a PCGS article that talks briefly about the Redfield Hoard.

Couple bits of trivia not in the article.

The auction was conducted in a courtroom via sealed bids. A-Mark had done the appraisal for the estate and knew exactly what was in the hoard. The other bidders knew the size of the hoard but not the specific contents.

While the hoard had a little over 400K dollars in it, Redfield had suffered a burglary earlier that resulted in the loss of of over 100K coins.

How does someone steal 100k in silver dollars? I cant imagine it was a one night robbery but over several nights.

The Redfield hoard is my favorite numismatic story. This was the first "treasure" hoard I read about when I first started collecting in 2011. It was a Littleton PDF file on the internet that my brother stumbled upon. To add to what Conder said, Redfield apparently build a false wall in his basement to hide his silver dollars behind after the theft. He would simply toss $1000 bags down an old coal shoot. They would land on the ground behind the false wall.

I love hearing these stories! It makes me want to tear down a few walls in my house to look for forgotten treasure. (I think my house is too new and I don't think I will find anything)
