Hi everyone, I just got this billon Tibetan Tangka, but I really don't know which date and variety it is. Any help determining the date would be greatly appreciated!

Don't have the newest Krause cataloque (still use my beloved Centennial Edition), from what I can determine it is a variety of Y#13.8 in there (ie 9 dots in inner circle). As with all Gaden Tankas the coin is not dated but the type got minted in quite some quantity from circa 1914-1923.

I have actually acquired a second example. However, this piece is silver and earlier than the coin pictured above. Any help IDing this late 19th-centruy example would be appreciated!

Medieval- Thanks for the help! I'm a bit surprised that this one is also billon. It seems so much more silver-y and it is so much heavier that the copper-like first Tangka first posted. There seem to be many Y#13.3 varieties as well. Is it Y# D13.3 ? Thanks!

Sorry, can only go buy the Centennial Edition of Krause. Have several myself of the various types and they are sometimes dull and sometimes shiny, also the weight differs a bit. Some other information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tibetan_tangka
And while the main varieties are well known, there might be more.
The different colours come from exposure to different conditions, if you find really shiny ones of the older types then the coin might have been given a 'bath'. Btw, billon is any low grade silver so some have a higher percentage than others.
Unfortunately cannot provide more information.

Medieval- Thanks for the input.
But I was just asking based upon the differences listed on NGC's page. Due to the vague descriptions, a dearth of pictures, and lots of variation seen in this type of coin, it is difficult to determine the type.

From the pictures in the last two links it's clear that yours is not one of them. Without pictures I cannot really be of any help.
From the pictures alone I would grade both of your coins in the VF/EF region.
