Cameo or not cameo? The coin is kinda hazy with a "frosted-all-over" look to it.

The when I look at it again, I think that obverse strike looks a little too perfect to be a business strike.

Where do you see wear Pacific? I still can't differentiate AU from lower MS grades.

About the fields, I can see my reflection just a little farther than 5 inches on the obverse, but the reverse doesn't mirror. Is this normal for a business strike?

Will this get a cameo grade? And will the big scratches near her chin give it a details?

It would be a waste of money to get it certified for the true professional opinion you desire..for the amateur opinion: NO cameo, AU at best.....numerous bag marks in the fields and heavy scratches

tripoli, are the bag marks and the scratch is what brings it down to AU?

wear ..........cheek bone and neck area, not a cameo. For three or four dollars go buy a blue boxed specimen dollar at your LCS. Sorry to disappoint you but this is a coin that needs to go into a bank deposit! Keep looking for a real nice one ! Not an expensive proposition!

That coin is mint state - but had a hard life in the mint bag. 1975 is the easiest year to find business strike cameo strikes. So common, that I even send MS-63 cameo strikes from this year to the bank. Note there are several varieties for the 1975 dollar, you can find them in the 67th Charlton catalogue.

I would grade your coin as MS-62 cameo.

Thanks all. I'm still no good at finding light wear vs no wear. I guess I'll just call this one a slider.
Good to hear the scratch won't give it a details grade, how big can a scratch be without giving the coin a details grade?

Just wondering SPP, but do you know why there are more '75 cameos around compared to other years? It's not like significantly more on them are minted. Hoping to find a DCAM in the wild one day.

And usually, how much of a premium do cameos bring? I'm not depositing these when I can make a small profit out of them (on campus, you can get one for the "low" price of $1.05 from me). They're fairly popular, also the halves.

Edit: Is it possible for me to get that edition Charlton at the expo? It's definitely better than having to use a 1988.

Deep cameos are extremely rare (other than the 1981-1987 proof strikes). I have only ever found one PL that ICCS graded ultra heavy cameo. I should really take a photo of it someday...

How many cameo designations are there? I think there's three, please correct me if I'm wrong: Cameo, Deep (heavy) cameo, Ultra heavy (deep) cameo.

Did they change how to make cameos in 1981 proof sets?
