Hello all,

After a FANTASTIC holiday in south Italy where I've visited Pompeii, Herculaneum, Paestum en many more interesting sites with my family (I recommend all of you to go there if not yet seen as historyfreaks), I couldnt wait to see my new arrived coins at home today!

This bronze of Philip II 359 - 336 B.C., father of Alexander the Great) is one of them.
I like the obverse so much, and the coin is very smooth as well!

19 mm - 6,16 grams - with the head of apollo

Great coin. The obverse is very attractive. The maps always make the history come to life. Its amazing to see the geographical extent of the kingdom under Philip and then to compare it the geographical extent at the end of Alexander's life. Alexander traveled to places and saw people and creatures Philip could only dream of. A wonderful piece and thanks for the map.

Thanks all! Indeed anoob, I saw the maps on several other topics and am always very interested in maps of battles/kingdoms of the ancient world. Philip II and Alexander never conquered Sparta as you can see as well on the map
