Proof Dollar? - Coin Community Forum

14ers Valued Member United States 230 Posts	Posted 09/30/2014 11:53 am I have long admired the Canadian Voyageur dollar design and finally got around to purchasing one. A nice coin that looks almost proof with frosted devices and mirror fields. With it in hand I did some looking into the series (Backwards, I know!). The 1963 I have is one of a mintage of 4,179,981. Or so I thought until I saw a section in the catalog for "Proof-like Dollars". 963,525 of those struck. Could mine be one of those? Report this Post to the Staff

JimmyD Bedrock of the Community Canada 21603 Posts	Posted 09/30/2014 12:06 pm I would say it was PL. My only concern would be the amount of marks on it. Was it in a holder when you bought it? The coin should be almost mark free as these where issued in pliofilm holders. Regardless, the value of a PL and MS dollar is about the same. Report this Post to the Staff

It arrived in a flip and it was the multitude of little dings that made me wonder if it was a just barely circulated well struck coin or an unfortunate proof.
