I am trying to help a friend who got these in a large Foreign lot. I do not collect world coins so this is way out of my league.

I am sure someone here can help. Thanks!

coins are 45-46MM
weight= coin 1 is 45.7 Grams, coin 2 is 45.6 Grams
they ring like silver.

Coin #2 is an Afghan 5 rupee from 1316 (1898) KM# 826, .900 silver.

Coin #1 is similar to the 1 rupee from 1321 KM# 842, but your coin is much larger. Perhaps someone who can read the Arabic could help. (I think the second picture is upside down)

'Amwyll Rwden' is right that the picture is upside down. Is is dated '1326' and from Afghanistan as well.

(I don't know if this works ALL of the time), but IMHO in each case of mine the correct way 'up' for my coins is to have the 'line' on the face of the coin 'bending' down (in the middle).

If someone knows better, I stand to be corrected.

'Anwyll Rwden' is mostly correct, he just forgot to leaf over to the next page I guess.
It is 5 Rupees AH1326 KM[CE]#843, the first one is as he says KM[CE]#826, both same weight 45.6g.
(So your measurement is well within the right limits.)

And the telling signs that the image was the wrong way round:
1. if you know arabic script it's trivial
2. if you don't know arabic script, look at the outside wreath: the leaves should be pointing up and it is closed at the bottom.

What line are you talking about?
It's easier than that for modern issues, just go by the wreath - the open bit is the top, the knot is at the bottom.

'jcmworld' how can you question an assessment from the resident specialist in oriental coins?
