Hey Folks,

Once again I come for your council and wisdom.

I have read and heard enough about the USS Central America, USS Republic and USS Atocha. I have read a few articles with information about gold and silver coins from Asia (China, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, and Philippines), Mexico, Panama, or Peru coming to California, but was lost at sea. The articles had VERY LITTLE information about them. So, I come to you experts to inquire if anyone has any information or titles of literature about pacific coast shipwrecks? Or even leaving California but was lost soon after leaving San Francisco. Could be American ships or foreign. Lost in the Sea of Cortez. Maybe about ships that were found, or ones that are still lost. I seek the lesser known ships.

Shipwrecks intrigue me!!

Also where do I send the shipwreck coins to be graded? PCGS and NGC do American coins. Foreign coins from 1900 and prior, or shipwreck coins, all they do is a verification of the coin. How do I learn their market values?

As always, I thank you all for your help. "Teach me, Oh wise ones!!" I look forward to your responds.

GOD Bless

Drdave

SS Brother Jonathan was one that was found off of the coast of Northern California and yielded gold coin and bars. Salvaging on that one began in the 1930's on up to the current day. Some artefacts actually washed up on the shore beginning in the 1930's during storms and led salvors and looters to the site.

Thanks for the info SM.

For me you will be a historian to track those ships, bermuda triangle is one.

Coast of ireland is one this summer their is an event that boats was overturned in dun loaghrei and in greystones good news all was rescued but the armada that king philip sent during the 1500 hundreds guess he sent several time was lost due to bad weather, well war ships dont just carry army they also carry payment maybe, this weather happen coz the change of the jet stream.

One I know the french discovered a galleon in the Philippines the bad news is,the artifacts are not placed in the philippines and exhibit in other countries and the museum in the philippines have no facilities and space to accomodate it.

And just a rumor yamaa gold some said it was carried towards japan but the boat was sunk.

Among other ships that are not recorded by the port or went out to the sea in secrets as a safety of the goverment for you can look on archive records of ships that go out in the port mostly on tracing your genes where their ancestor came from and what port they depart maybe you can trace how many ships reach their distination and others did not.

And sometimes the older wreck and the site is quite hard get the artifact saw once in TV an expidition raised a section of sea bed or a riff to have access to a ship all they found was 3 coins maybe those are coins that sailors placed on their door mat.

Atocha (more correctly Nuestra Senora de Atocha, which was a Spanish Galleon, not a USS) has a write-up on the newworldtreasures.com site. You can find it below:

Good info.
1561 to 1748 more or less 1087 years X 2 voyages per year, ships going to America from Spain maybe same number of ships from America to Spain maximum of 4348 voyages I think.

I wonder how many years the life span of ships those that are not destroyed by storm but by pest in wood ship and those that is out in commision.

A year to travel from Spain to America thats new to me.
Rest in Peace

Hi Josie, it's a very interesting topic.
However I can't quite follow your train of thought.
"1561 to 1748 more or less 1087 years"? what are youtrying to say.
Please clarify for me.

Thank you ME and TK both of you are right sorry, 187yrs X 4 voyages/yr=748 + their escort ship. just only Spain not including portuguese and British vessel.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jet_stream

http://virga.sfsu.edu/crws/jetstream.html

This summer of 2007 several number of boats capsize in dun loigre and greystones almost the same time just one squal or what term they use of strong wind maybe this happen today other vessel during the spanish time upward and downward may have the same faith.

The jet stream, the weather some painting shown on BBC or other documentary showing Thames is covered with ice and they are still studying this if this is true or not, if it is true the jet stream then migth be higher or lower from our jet stream today and when did sea vessel use jet stream in their voyages and when it was first discovered or know to the public at that time, maybe if they can chart the jet stream in the past they can know where is the route of the vessel for they will use it often in their past voyages and the squal or strong wind near the shore plus and minus their location for their is costal erosion like on the west part of Great Briatin.
