I remember hearing that using USPS registered mail is a good idea. Are there other better ways to ship this coin via USPS or UPS?

Where are you sending it to?
In the US or internationally?

If I were sending the coin, I would send it USPS first class with tracking and signature confirmation. Insurance would be optional.

The other option would be in a Priority Mail small flat rate box. I use the box if it's obvious I'm sending a coin.

Would only use registered mail if it was high value.

Just kidding.

I would use Priority Mail 3-Day Padded Flat Rate Envelope plus Signature Confirmation and Insurance.

NGC uses registered mail, even for a single $200 coin.

I guess it depends on your aversion to risk. I sell a lot of coins on ebay and I usually follow these guidelines:

Up to $249 value, USPS First class with standard tracking.
$250 to $749, USPS First class with signature tracking
$750 to $1499, USPS Priority with signature tracking
$1500 to $4999, USPS Priority Express with signature tracking and USPS insurance.
$5000 or more, USPS Priority, registered and insured.
