Poll Question
Been recently considering changing my username on here. I've had it long enough to deserve a change IMO. One because I'm kind of bored with it and two (and more importantly), I want to choose something that reflects in some way my main passions in ancients&medieval history/collecting. There will probably be some getting used to and possibly some confusion in referring to me by a new name for those that have known me for a while as ValiantKnight(VK), so I was wondering if you all would be comfortable if I went ahead and got a new username (if I do end up doing it, you can still refer to me as VK).
Note: this is not to brainstorm possible new names, just to gauge opinions about me changing my name.

What are you thinking of changing it to? I've known you as VK for a long time, but if you want to change it. Go for t.

I'm throwing around ideas in my head right now. I just want to see whether or not it will cause any inconvenience for those that have known me.

I think you should have a name that you are comfortable with, so go ahead and change it. You could always include ValiantKnight in your signature for a while.

I do like VK, but I voted for you to change it. I also understand your reason for wanting to change it. Its like how long can I be a "noob" I mean if that is the case then like 40 years from now I will still be a "noob" and Ancient would be more appropriate.
Having known your for sometime, may I suggest new usernames.

Not going to vote in the poll because I am not long enough on this forum, but just a comment to: Quote: I've had it long enough to deserve a change IMO. When did you last change your first or family name? You must have had that name now for some time, why are you starting to feel uncomfortable with it? Do you feel you need a promotion to 'ValiantDuke' or 'ValiantEmperor'? Or matching to your avatar 'ValliantRoman' or 'ValliantAugustus'? A choice like that would probably make it easier for your friends than something totally different. But in the end it is not up to others to decide if you should change it or not, you should base your decision not on a poll but rather how you feel yourself about it. Postscript: And a quick comment to Quote: Its like how long can I be a "noob" Here in Australia the standard nickname for someone with no hair is 'curly' - thought you picked the 'noob' on a similar tangent. Maybe I should have used 'Medievil'.

I like OstroJeff. Nate I got one for you Hunarifix. My user name isn't coin related and I've had it forever and still love it.

I probably will do that if I do the name change. Quote: Having known your for sometime, may I suggest new usernames.
WeeBronze. MyNummi. OstroJeff VisiJeff Jeffodoric INVICTAJEFFCA I couldn't help but chuckle at a few of those lol Quote: You must have had that name now for some time, why are you starting to feel uncomfortable with it? Idk, I guess the name is striking me as kind of silly now, and I now want a new name that better reflects who I am as a collector. Interesting that those of you in favor (or just don't mind) a name change have spoken up with their thoughts, but those that voted against (according to the poll are more numerous) haven't really posted why. I'm interested as to why not exactly. Inconvenience as I've mentioned, perhaps?

O.K. V.K. I voted against (a name change) and here's why.
You shouldn't judge anyone by their name. Especially not oneself.
Not all 'Janes' are plain, not all 'Marilyns' are 'airheads' not all 'George Bushes' are going to become President (some would say thank goodness).
If you want a name that reflects how you feel, I would have to change mine 50 times a day because I feel differently depending on the 'influencing' circumstances.
A name is a bunch of letters that is either easy to pronounce or hard to pronounce - nothing more.
A Question: You have a poll that says a resounding 'No' and yet you are still thinking about a change. If you are going to ignore the thoughts of your peers then why have the poll in the first place?
Good luck!

Quote: A Question: You have a poll that says a resounding 'No' and yet you are still thinking about a change. If you are going to ignore the thoughts of your peers then why have the poll in the first place? Perhaps the poll was unnecessary; it was mearly to gauge popular opinion and I wasn't basing my decision solely upon that. I'd rather get feedback in the form of detailed opinions such as those already posted (guess I should have made that clearer in the original post). That being said, those that are ok with a name change have made a much better argument than the majority that have said no (aside from you, who took the time to outline your reasoning, and I thank you for that). Quote: You shouldn't judge anyone by their name. Especially not oneself. That's very true. A name is just that, a name. What kind of person someone is is far more important. What's that saying? A title doesn't make a man, but the man makes the title? Something like that. I'm not looking to be judged based on how I name myself, especially online. I'm pretty sure that no matter how many usernames I go through I've already set some sort of reputation around here. The name is merely going to be a reflection of what I am into with regards to my collecting habits and the kind of history I am into. I guess you could say I am trying to simply go beyond choosing names with no real significance (to me). Saying that, I should have put more thought when I chose my current name (which was nearly 3 years ago I may add). But the past is the past.

BTW I thought of a really good one that keeps my VK acronym and fits into what I want.

What is that? . . ."ViKoin" . . . "I am . . . through my coins"
(P.S. Glad you did not misinterpret my points as criticism.)
"Topcat" suits me, because in my own little 'alley' I am number 1, but outside it no-one knows I exist. The 7 is for luck.

Maybe you should have included a "don't mind" vote.
I just hope that we don't get a new member who calls himself ValiantKnight, because that would be really confusing :)

Naaaah. That would make him a 'Prince' of a guy, when he was really only a Knight.
