Hi all,

I have been having fun posting coins and reading condition guesses. I bought this coin today because of the toning. They had to dust off coin book it was in.

Please guess grade, and what I paid. I don't have official grade, but think it would be fun to guess price. I probably paid to much because of toning.

Dang, I just looked at the picture and the back looks blurry. Perhaps you could grade assuming the front and back are similar (front is less blurry).

Very nice toning, nice addition to your collection. Many of the 1973 dollars have great toning as they were issued in black clamshell cases without a capsule to protect the coin from toning. They were only issued in specimen strikes. Assuming your dollar has original surfaces it would probably grade as a SP67. They are .500 silver and sell for around $10-$15 without the case. If you paid around $10us. it would be a good deal for both the buyer and seller. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your responses. I paid 7 each for 13 of them, including the clam shell. That is funny, because I thought the cases were different looking, but never thought of a clam shell to describe them - which is perfect.

Some of the coins were also in the cardboard to protect them, and some were just in the cases. Most look like this, although one has what appears to be small finger prints in the toning. I guess I just leave it at this point.

At $7 bucks, I thought at the least they would make nice Christmas gifts for a few friends or coworkers.

The ones I got included
3 Canoes (1966) - no boxes
6 horses (1973- those clamshell boxes
2 1971 (I don't know what it is - like funny looking standing deer - clamshell
2 1981 trains (in capsule) - the boxes are square

I think the coin shop owner thinks the price of silver is going to continue dropping so he wants to get rid of some stuff. This might not be a great price in a month.

Also, I am new to collecting (past 2 months). When silver was $40 dollars, would have these gone for more than $16? I hope the prices don't keep falling and I could have waited and bought these for $3 someday.
