I believe this coin to be Costantine or Constantius but I am not sure which one? Can you narrow it down for me please? A RIC or Sear number would be a great help. AE18.5 and Wt 3 gm *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. *** to Ancient coins.

Neither, it's from the Constantinople Commemorative series of the 330's AD.

Thank-you, ski. I went through ALL of the ones shown for RIC and Sear on Wildwinds, but I couldn't place it there anywhere.
Can you suggest another place I might try, please?

Have you ever tried flying a 'Jumbo' jet? (Seriously?) It is awfully difficult until you know how. The same applies to http://www.catbikes.ch/coinstuff/coins-ric.htm I have been there MANY times and I still cannot figure it out. There is a box in the middle of the page where you can get a 'drop-down' list and there is a listing for "City Commemoratives" on there. I click on that and I get a spreadsheet with columns of data on it that mean nothing to me without pictures - but no pictures? Is there a simple method of navigating that site?

In the top columns of each spreadsheet you can narrow results down by ruler, city, field marks, legends etc. by clicking down on the little downward triangle icon on each column title. You need to look and read the coin (its legends, other features) to get all the info you need and so be able to narrow down results.
You might not get very far with this coin though if the photo is true to the coin and the mintmark is really that worn away.

Sorry about that forgetting that you are just starting out. Were you about to download ERIC I? if you have it go to page 602 the info is limited but you have images. ERIC II has much more info but you will have to buy the book, the ecopy doesn't have RIC numbers. You can probably find a copy under $100 on ebay. You can also do a search on Wildwinds under city commemorative s http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/i.html Browse using thumbnail images.

The lovely people at ForvmAncientCoins gave me the link to eric1 and I downloaded it. I started looking at P.602 but no luck. I went to the (index) at the end and if I am correct that the mint mark is dot SMK delta then I only have to find 'RIC120' Where do I go to look that up, please?

Sorry, ski. Thanks for providing me with the link but I 'googled' eric1 coins and I came up with a link to a ForvmAncientCoins thread where they provided the link. While I was researching it you must have put it up. Sorry again, and thanks. Where can I find RIC120, please?

I can't make out the mint mark, but if it's dot SMK delta than it's RIC VII Cyzicus. Star SMK delta is RIC 120. Sorry I have no image of either 107 or 120.

Thanks for all of the help. It all adds to the knowledge bank.
Who knows? One day I might be able to give some back?
