What do you guys think? I slotted in random toonies to fill it up to test the strength and it actually held well! I hope I never drop one on my foot, it's quite heavy.

DIY-Coin-Album

Surprisingly, I found an old style 2012 toonie lying around when looking for some more toonies to fill this up!

I also drew up a loonie template. I have yet to test the strength of this one though, since I haven't cut one yet.

DIY-Coin-Album

For this, I only needed to buy some paper and cut it up, so there's no need to worry for PVC I will also put a blank sheet in between these pages when they're in the binder so the coins won't hit each other in storage.

you may wish to get a better paper. I doubt if notebook paper would be archival quality

You will have to reinforce the binder holes as well.

Slur, thats a great idea.. So now just go get some of those Poster boards ( cardboard for school ) and do the same but double it up after you cut the slots.. Much stronger and nothing will fall out..

How about archival quality matteboard? You can get sheets of it at art supply stores for pretty cheap.

You may want to try what I did when I ran out of folders for newer Canadian coins. Whitman's last item for quarters ended with the 2007 base quarter and the Olympic quarters from 2007-2009.
I bought an order type and just started pasting new descriptions on it. Attached is what the first page looks like.

This attempt doesn't work for everyone, as many of you out there don't like folders and would rather have albums, but this is ok for my needs.

I haven't heard of archival paper before. I just looked it up and I'll look for that when I go shopping next time then replace these when I find them. Looks like they come in higher gsm too so that I won't need to double it or reinforce it with anything.

I'm making this, because I currently don't have access to a quality folder or album. I also can't have a lot of things since I'm boarding and so I move around every year.

I was thinking 8 1/2 x 11 card stock, no need to be cutting sheets, it comes cut to size, just have to select the thickness and paper quality, I have put card stock through a laser printer as well, if you make a template in Word/Excel, it will help once you have it formatted, then move onto quarters, dimes etc. Card stock will help in terms of the paper holding up to multiple page turns, reinforce the three hole punch. Great idea. I always need new pages for circulation coins. Like the Whitman set up as well Atticguy.

Honestly I want to avoid using computers to make these kind of template, since it would be very hard to get it to the right size (and in Word, spacing too). That, and the lag that happens when you have a lot of non-text (especially images) in Word. It would be easier to do it on paper with a ruler. Good idea with the card stock, but I think I'll get some archival paper when I get the chance.

Make sure you are using acid and chlorine / sulphur free paper or cardboard.
Unsightly differential surface tarnishing will result if you don't.

I will pick up some archival paper when I get the chance. It must be free of chlorine and sulphur.

Does anyone use the plastic 30 coin sleeve sheets made by Selectum? I've had luck with storing circulation coins in them until I can Put them in a plastic-cardboard holders. Two sheets sell for 1.50 here in Ontario.
