In in DC for a business trip. I have some down time. Among all the state buildings and monuments, its unfortunate that there is no mint here! Anyone know of any good places I (as a numismatic) should check out?

The Smithsonian Museum of American History houses the national numismatic collection ... and it's free to visit.

Be advised that IMHO the public available exhibition space is very disappointing ... a 'walk in closet' sized space in a corner of the museum ... that said ... many tremendous coins to be seen there.

The national numismatic collection was the first place my brother and I visited in DC.

Here's the BEP tour info http://www.moneyfactory.gov/tours/w...dctours.html

There's a US Mint sales center in DC as well at 801 9th St. if you're interested in the newer US Mint products
