Who knows. Is there any possibility that someone opened the set and changed a coin?

You have a normal 1974 Mint Set. The S cent is from San Francisco.

Sorry for yelling. Here are the pics. In second one, notice the other penny with no mm.

Both cents are business strike version. As I said above the S one is from San Francisco. The cent without mint mark is from Philadelphia. Again, it is a normal set.

From 1968-1974, the US mint sets included the San Francisco mint business strike coins, so your set is normal to include the 1974-S cent. From 1975 on, San Francisco only made proof coins for the proof sets. I don't see anything wrong with the other cent in your picture other than the possibility of a slight misaligned die, which would also not be unusual for a business strike coin.

I know that the S is from san diego, and the No mm is from philadelphia and I know they are both business strikes. I was just wondering because it was the only one with the S. Thanks.

The US Mint set should also contain a 1974-D LMC ... all three were issued as circulation strike coinage that year.

You are the owner of a completely normal and low valued mint set ...

Politely suggest that you consider acquiring some numismatic references to support your growth in the hobby ... a great start is the annual " Red Book of United States coins".

Lol, I meant Fransisco, and I have the Red Book, but I am more into silver, then into coins.

and I have the red book

Then I politely suggest you read it and gain some knowledge of the 'coins' ... in addition to whatever knowledge you are gaining into silver.

A quick read of any numismatic reference would have revealed that the 1974-S LMC was a business strike coin and readily available in any mint issued set.

No need ... other than to satisfy your curiosity versus personal research ... for the posting that you displayed over this common coin and common set.

Sorry sir, I have read that book but now I know. I didn't think it would include the information. So now I will go to the book any time I have a question, and if it is not there, I will go to this website, and hopefully you won't be as rude.

You are welcome and encouraged SilverStackerKid to come here anytime you have a question ... our experts are all freely giving of their time in this volunteer forum.

That said ... we also expect that the acquisition of knowledge should involve at least a minimum amount of effort by the person posting the question ...

I was not being 'rude' in my replies ... I was simply stating the obvious fact that you chose to pose a question that could have been easily answered from a quick read of the reference materials you acknowledge owning.

Hopeful that you accept my feedback in the spirit intended ... encouragement for your independent growth as a collector.

Lol, typing doesn't do what the voice does. You can't see what mood the type is. Lol. If you know what I am saying. Sorry.
