I'm not sure if selling it all at once is so great, depending on the individual and size of the collection of course. If she sells it all at less than 50%, she ends up with a pile of ever decreasing (in value) digits...ummm...I mean dollars. I've been telling her (if I kick the bucket first :), to sell off things as she needs to or wishes to over any remaining years left to her (Who cares if any of the collection survives her, she won't :). There is also the question of governments taking a harder look in the future at everyone's various sources of income. I'd hate for a windfall to reflect on any pensions or higher taxes for her. I'm leaving lots of 'living' instructions on the various worth and ways to dispose of things. In the end, of course, it is ultimately up to her what to do, but she is well aware of the direction our nation seems to be headed in at all levels of government...ie. higher taxes/user fees, more digits representing dollars created out of thin air, increasing debt loads = higher cost of living.

Not trying to be political here, it is what it is. Our various collections represent a part of our savings for the future and the plan for us both is to slowly sell it off over time (not yet though!:) as a supplement as we get older.
