There are sevral ways.

1) Develop cheap tastes. I enjoy the local history of Municipal trade tokens. Find something no one likes and go hog wild spending 25-50 cent a coin

2) Cherry Pick. I collect Canadian small cents so lets say I notice a penny is a harp cent but not attributed, I can buy that at a cheaper price because the dealer doesn't realise what he has.

3) Coin roll hunt. We have a whole sub-form dedicated to that. http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...FORUM_ID=147

4) Metal detect. This would be great if you lived in one of the 13 original colonies. Also, a sub-forum. http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...?FORUM_ID=53

5) Flea Markets (like you said). The most prolific practiser of this methithed has to be "keepcalmandcoinon", here is hid thread showing off his accusations. https://goccf.com/t/176716

This comes up a lot. Many differences of ideas and what works for some, fails for others. My greatest finds have been at garage/yard sales and flea markets. Next is coin shows. In last place is the internet. ebay is very last. One thing that sometimes works is just asking friends, neighbors, relatives. Sometimes they come up with all sorts of coins. Lots of people swear by ebay but so far I've never seen anything on ebay that I couldn't find cheaper at a coin show.

All you need is time, and I'm not talking about the time throughout the day taking work off things like that, I'm talking about the time throughout... a decade for example. Good luck!

we have various antique shops here that have these big bins full of mixed coins, 50c each. Takes some digging time but its worth it, I have found some early coins and silver in them in the past. Look for the dirty coins, they can be overlooked are sometimes silver
