Possible Wrong Planchet State Quarter, Need Help.

jesseo2005 New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 10/27/2014 4:10 pm I found this quarter today. Lighter than a normal 1999 Georgia State Quarter and also not as thick. Edges don't appear to touch and no ridges. No sign of copper or whatever is in a normal quarter. Any thoughts? Report this Post to the Staff

Altaira Pillar of the Community Canada 2519 Posts	Posted 10/27/2014 4:14 pm It looks like an acid shrunk coin to me. The letters in relief are thinner, and the incuse letters are thicker. It looks like the diameter is also smaller. If I remember correctly copper dissolves faster in acid compared to nickel which explains the gap. Report this Post to the Staff

I've seen an quarter that had been in acid and it was pretty hollow and still was the same thickness. Maybe different acid was used? Coin feels sold and unable to bend or break off any chunks.
