Medieval Pillar of the Community 3772 Posts	Posted 10/27/2014 7:39 pm The weight of gold sovereign: 7.9881g @ .917 gold = .2354 oz AGW If the weight and bulk (compare to other sovereigns) is right there is no real reason to be suspicious, except for trying to sell copies made from inferior material there is no reason to counterfeit them. sel_69l Bedrock of the Community Australia 21788 Posts	Posted 10/27/2014 8:23 pm Perhaps you could try a comparative ring tone test against a known genuine coin. Coins of lower purity will have a slightly higher pitch. From the pictures they look OK, but some excellent sovereign fakes have been made, in some cases from gold that has a higher purity than genuine coins. Good quality fake and genuine sovereigns were used for trading in the Middle East; that may help explain for the high purity fake coins being accepted in trade. Report this Post to the Staff
