Just checked out your want list. I am also working on a 7070 Just curious how you picked the 4 commemorative half dollars you want to include? Any tips? I just started mine 10/86 so far but it will be a fun project for sure.

Here are the 4 I have selected (I have yet to acquire any of them though) and the reason for selecting it.

Classic Commemorative Half Dollars
1920-P Maine Centennial Half Dollar - I was born in Maine and even though I moved away when I was still a toddler, I have a special place in my heart for my birth state.

19XX - Any Mintmark Oregon Trail Memorial Half Dollar - I live in Oregon and love it! Also, I have a great respect for our pioneer ancestors and the hardships and sacrifices they endured.

1936-P Bridgeport Centennial Half Dollar - I really like the way that Henry G. Kreiss depicts the Eagle in his art. The bold designs are, I think, indicative of this majestic animal. Plus they just look really cool! Oh and PT Barnum was an interesting character.

1935-P Connecticut Tercentenary Half Dollar - See above regarding the Eagle designs by Henry G. Kreiss, plus I like the history of the Charter Oak.

Now it is your turn. Please share your selections for your Dansco 7070, classic commemorative half dollars, and the reasons why you selected them.

My first two are the uncirculated and proof Washington Commemorative half dollars. Easy choice since I already had them.

Third is the Columbian. Again, easy choice (easy to find, easy to afford).

The last one was just purchased over week ago...

I'm trying to have a wide range for mine. I have a columbian and I want a booker t Washington half to serve as book ends. The I want a modern clad and then a silver half to balance it out. I'm limited to about $20 a half so most of the classic halves are way out of my price range for my 7070 album.

I would suggest selecting coins that:

a. you have a personal connection with (e.g., current or former residence, location of college years, birthplace of a parent/grandparent, etc.)

b. you find particularly attractive

c. you relate to in terms of the person/place/event they commemorate

I don't have a 7070 album, but if I did I would likely go with the following:

1. 1892 World's Columbian Exposition: No US commemorative set is "complete" without an example of the first US commemorative coin!

2. 1937 Roanoke Colony: I currently live in North Carolina.

3. 1926 American Independence Sesquicentennial: Quite possibly the most worthy commemorative piece of the entire classic set.

4. 1982 George Washington: The "Father" of our country, our first president and the first coin of the modern commemorative series. It works for me on multiple levels!

My 7070 set will soon have the following:

1893 Columbian Exposition
1925 Stone Mountain
1982 Washington
1986 Statue of Liberty

Two modern and two classic.

All worthy suggestion ...

Go with coins that make a connection to you - whatever era you select them from.

Another idea, if you wanted to split between modern and older ones, is to go with only two silver releases for the modern ones:

1993 Bill of Rights
1982 Washington

Thanks for the replies and suggestions everybody. I am having a great time putting this set together......still have a LONG way to go, but it is started and I am happy so far. I think I am going to wait to make a final decision on most of them until it is more complete, but I definitely want the P.T. Barnum for a couple of reasons. I'm still following the thread and appreciate all of you~!! 7070 progress: 15 / 86
