Coin Friends - We have finally overcome the jetlag of retuning from a tremendous vacation trip to Istanbul ... and I have six examples of the Turkish 1 Lira coin to share with you. First ... to get you in the Turkish mood ... picture the 'New Mosque' - photo taken by me from the Bosporus Straight ... one of the many such historic Mosque in Istanbul. The current Turkish 1 Lira coin was first struck in 2009 ... a bimetallic issue composed mainly of copper. Diameter is 26.15 mm and weight is 8.2 grams. You can find plenty of info on this coin on the web. Interesting to note that nearly all transactions in Istanbul are rounded to the nearest 1 Lira ... I had a difficult time obtaining fractional denominations ... all of which have been sent to a CCF friend. Photo of one of the six Turkish Lira I am giving away ... typical circulation usage for this workhorse of the Turkish economy. Rules of this free giveaway -- 1. One coin per responder ... first six qualifying replies get one of the circulated Lira. 2. I will pay all costs to ship the coins ... so alas USA addresses only. 3. Interested CCF members need to state their intentions in a reply to this post ... and send me a PM with their mailing address. Please do not publicly share any identifying info. 4. Lira recipients are required to acknowledge receipt of the coin via a reply to this thread. Great fun had in Istanbul ... pleased to share a few of these coins with you. Any Takers? David

It's a very nice looking coin, and I have yet to see a single coin that I would not like to have at least one of in my collection/hoard. That being said, I would love to add one to my world coins. Let me know if I qualify. If not no hard feelings. I would never want to take away from a hardcore world collector, as my main focus is Lincolns & Jeffersons.

Interested. My step-father spent a number of years in Turkey as a child when his father was stationed there in the USAF. Think it'd be a great gift for him. Let me know if that qualifies me.

nickelsearcher-
this is a very nice thing you are doing for some of the members here. Were it that more people (not just on the boards here) did little tings like this, oh what a world we would live in! I applaud you and congrats to those that will be receiving your coins.
Scott.

Hi, If it's not too late I would love one of your coins to add to my world coin collection. I'm new to CCF so I'm not sure if I qualify, but I thought I"d give it a shot. Thanks, ~Amy
