nina- Proofs (usually from sets): 1936-1964 Philly, no MM, mirror surface 1965-1967 SMS only, no MM, prooflike 1968-date, proof sets are generally S mint, mirror surface 1968-1974, S mint cents also made for circulation 1968-1970, S mint nickels also made for circulation There have also been all sorts of SMS, silver proof sets, special sets, etc, which is why I recommend getting the RedBook and reading it. Yes it's boring. Homework is supposed to be boring. It was boring in 1964, too. |

I was disappointed when I drove 15 minutes to purchase my first Franklin half dollar when I realized they were unexpectedly closed for Memorial Day weekend. Later on at my job, someone was trying to pay with even change and slapped a quarter on the counter and made that extra ringing sound only heard in a ... silver quarter! A 1964-D silver quarter! Most ironic find ever! |

Found tonight at work: my third-ever I-think-this-is-silver-coated State Quarter. No ringing sound, but also NO indication on the edge of being clad (I edge-check all our "silver" coins in the dispenser as a matter of course--you learn to spot those quick), and while it could be wishful thinking, it seems to me the silver colour is brighter than on a clad coin. |

From change from a Tim Horton's donut, I got a 1967 Canadian quarter, a 1942 Wheat penny, a pair of shield cents, a 2000 commemorative toonie, a terry fox lonnie and a trio of Iowa State Quarters. All from a Canadian retailer... |

Today I got a 1958-D Wheat cent, 1946 nickel and the best find... a 2009-P nickel which means for the second day in a row I have filled a hole in my nickel collection from circulation. |

Sitting on the counter of a sub shop where I got an eight-inch sub for $1 was two copper pennies. One of them was a 1955!
