Not actually a penny, it's the token piece from a mint uncirculated set, that just happens to be struck on a cent planchet and easily passed as one in change.

Today, I found the older, more mature brother to BLadd's avatar coin.

Today's haul, a 2000 Canadian Celebration quarter and a pair of wheaties (44-S and 55-D) from my drawer and a worn 1925 Buffalo nickel from the donation box at Speedway, I replaced it with a dime.

one of my coworkers found a 1939 Jefferson plain in the register for me. I also got a 1952-D wheat from the same drawer when it needed new pennies later that night.

These were all found today. I've been in the habit of going into every store I pass and asking for penny rolls now that banks can't issue them, and it pays off! I went into a bookstore and did the rounds, but the answer was no. A rack of cut-price National Geographics caught my eye and I found the Skylab issue for 50 cents. When I returned to the till, I noticed a pencil/paperclip holder with lots of pennies and one or two foreigns. The cashier emptied it out and I got 24 pennies for 25 cents, plus an Italian eurocent. I also got a 50 dirham coin from the UAE for 5 cents (since it's roughly nickel-sized). Turns out that's about 25 cents face! Also interesting was that I got two 1962-D cents in the same tiny population... No notable Canadians in the lot, unfortunately.

I know we're trying to get dollar coins circulating, but really now, who would go this far? 2002-S proof Sac found in the drawer at work.

Spotted these three in a donation bin at Safeway. I asked the customer service rep if they could unlock it so I could replace these with real Canadian money of equivalent size (most people are glad to let you have "weird stuff" if you exchange it for a coin of roughly equivalent size, and now they can actually redeem all of the donations).

Today was an exciting day, I got my first ever piece of Canadian silver! One of my coworkers had received it in change and gave it to me at face, dated 1952 and in great shape.

I was going through a parking kiosk and asked for weird coins. Found this for 50 cents: If any Americans here are having a hard time relating to me here, well, just imagine finding this in your change:

The donation bin at Speedway paid off again, this time there was an Italian 1 eurocent coin that the lady on shift let me swap for a US cent. I think someone around here must have taken a vacation to Italy around the start of the year, this is the third Italian euro coin in 3 months.
