Got this one at the bank. Who'd spend a proof, even if it is filled-s instead of clear? Their loss.

I also have a Proof SBA that I picked out of someone's change a few years ago. Figure some kid got ahold of Dad's (or Mom's!) coins when they wanted ice cream money or something. Oh well, it's mine now and I'm taking good care of it! Rachel

I searched $30 in cents, nickels, and dimes that I bought off of my neighbor for face value. Found 1 Canadian cent, 3 Wheat Ears, 10 1950s-early 60s nickels, and the kicker- a 1901 Indian Head cent VG-8 and a 1888 Liberty nickel AG-3!

Why should I spend a Liberty nickel that is worth $15 even in AG-3 (4th most expensive in the series in low grades) or an Indian Head cent? That is just crazy

Biokemist6 and Banjax: Very nice finds. Wish I was that lucky!! We were in Ireland last spring and hoped to find some of the older Irish coins. Unfortunately, all we found were Euros. thelostworld: Found an SBA in my change today. However it sure wasn't an "S" mintmark.

your right there gary, you wont find a single old (pre 2002) irish coin in currulation (i suppose because none of the coins look like the euro coins, they are all easily 'spotted'), the only way would be to purchase them. i myself kept loads of them before the euro took over, iv over 1000 of my old currency! 90% of which are mint!!!!

Banjax: It's great you kept them.
Back in the 1960's, when I was in college, I had a "pen pal" who lived in Dublin. He sent me some great Irish and English coins. I still have them, and enjoy them.

When you have old currency like that is it still valid? That is if you want to can you use it?

Gary Burke: 1960s! wait, the coins you got so are from an older currency again. pre 1969, there was coins such as shillings, halfcrown etc similar to the old english currency, I dont have 1000 of them! (i wish!) iv less than 100 coins from that currency.
TreasHunt: that 'old currency' was the Punt (irish for Pound), and no it is still not valid, not since mid 2002, during the currency changeover.
