Got this out of a 50 cents each bin. A huge crack on N and a couple of smaller ones on the leaves. The obverse has a couple of hairline cracks.

It is Zoell reverse FL174e: sprouting M.L., line CEN to rim, 4 to M.L.

Obverse not listed (or not yet in this catalogue).

There seem to be a lot of die cracks in 1944 and 1945. There's a huge chunk for those where other years usually have one or two variety listings. Must be because of the war. I'm amazed when I read that Thomas Shingles cut the matrix by hand!

Hard one to spot on the neck. Does there also seem to be too much metal around the reverse rim? I thought I saw something near the neck but dismissed it until I saw the picture underneath. Could I be nosey today and ask you what you use for the picture? It would certainly make it so much easier to find some errors.

Nice. I like die cracks. I don't seek them out but I don't avoid them either. I like getting them as a nice surprise.

Since most of the cracks occur on the edges of the letters I wonder why they didn't un-serif or round off the letter edges and designs? I mean, they had to produce a new matrix anyway when they made the Victory design.
