Hi. I'm new to the site and coin collecting. Can someone tell me what causes holes like these in a coin? The holes all look the same, so I was wondering if it is some kind of an error. Thanks and sorry if this was a dumb question!

Suncom33. to CCF.
As stated above, PMD, meaning, post mint damage.
Looks like your Peace dollar had a tough life. The holes could be from a number of reasons but, not an error.
Any question is not dumb, within reason. IMHO

Hi,

I'm fairly new to coin collecting and a new member of CCF. It's nice to meet you.

I've always heard that the only dumb question is the question not asked. If you aren't sure about something, always ask, no matter how silly it may seem.
There are a lot of really nice, knowledgeable, and professional members here who help all levels of coin collectors.
I doubt anyone starting a coin collection doesn't have a plethora of questions. There's so much to learn!
Then trying to focus on just one topic in Numismatics is near impossible. You're always crossing topics as you go.

If you read through some of the different topics in the forum that interest you, you learn a lot just doing that.
Also CCF has a Glossary. It has been very helpful to me!

I hope this helps you.
See you around!
