Someone I know recently responded to a message I had sent with this pic of something interesting they had stumbled upon in "Ye Olde Junk Shoppe"
(neighborhood of Lincolnshire UK) a few months back.

While I have not the exact details at hand (seems to be 22.5mm) I am informed it is silver and ........
he is quite satisfied after making some inquiries about it that it is quite genuine !

Sometimes-You-Just-Never-Know---!

I had attempted to coax him into posting it here for our opinions and perusal but ....
No sale

Anyway my 'friend' gave his permission for me to post it here for comments

The only 'real' issue I see is the astounding condition of the piece !

In the finest tradition of 'serious' collectors he informed me he had paid the shop keeper the incredible sum of ..........

£40 ?

If he had used a gun he couldn't have done much better

Very lovely. From the picture I would strongly suspect it to be authentic too. It is quite difficult to create a convincing flan crack like that in a cast. I suppose that it could be a struck or pressed fake, but the style looks good.

The pictures presented here suggest genuine.
I would love to look at the edges with a high powered loupe, to confirm.
So far, a desirable siliqua!

I don't see anything that suggests that it's fake.

The coin (so it seems to those who have examined it) is genuine. This delightful find is an example of putting the otherwise useless information we collectors possess to good use ! The shop keeper no doubt was somewhat familiar with LRB's and probably did not even note that this was even a silver coin. £40 probably seemed like a handsome price for a nice specimen !
Hopefully for his sake he never learns of his hasty decision. The ones I see for sale tend toward the 4 figures.

Out of my league !
But you just never know ......
Any one of us might walk into a 'junk' store someday and ......
