Hello Folks. I hope another contest running concurrently with the one or two others going at this time will be ok. Over the last few months I've accumulated some used Redbooks at a local thrift store pretty cheap. I picked out the one or two that I needed, and the rest I'd like to give away. The books are: 17th edition (1964) 20th edition (1967) (2 copies) 22nd edition (1969) 24th edition (1971) 25th edition (1972) 28th edition (1975) 29th edition (1976) 35th edition (1982) All are in decent readable condition, no marks inside any that I could see, though I didn't look at every page! Only flaw is on the cover of the 24th edition (1971), where it looks like the family dog may have chewed the upper right hand corner a little. Here are the rules: I recently came back from my summer vacation which lasted about 19 days. Your job: guess the name of the northernmost town/city which I visited. My only clue is that I live just north of Prescott, AZ and I drove my truck on my trip. I didn't fly. This isn't a trick question; the northernmost town I visited IS north of where I live. I'll let this contest go for a week, so it'll end, oh, say about 8:00 p.m. mountain time Tuesday of next week, Sept. 11th. Oh my goodness, I just realized what day that is. Winner will be the one who guesses the exact name of the town, or, barring that, guessing the name of the closest town to the northernmost town I visited. I'll have to sharpen my map skills for this one. Let's say there will be 3 winners. First place, (closest guess), will have choice of 4 of the Redbooks listed above. Second place, (2nd closest), choice of 3 of the remaining 5 books. 3rd place will get the remaining 2 books. I'll ship using media mail postpaid by me, and for this contest let's limit it to just the U.S. I think shipment to another country could get expensive for something as heavy as books. If someone guesses the name of the town before the end of the week, I'll still let the contest go to the end so that 2nd and 3rd place can be determined. If someone guesses the exact town, I may be forced to throw in a little something extra, because that would be quite an achievement! If you don't need the books and would like to play just for fun, I can send (or you can) the books to some other member whom you designate, as long as I don't have to send too many separate packages. Thanks, Dan Thanks for all your guesses. Winners are Kinte Smith, Ducky, and Rigoletto. (see my last post)Edited by adobero1 09/08/2007 10:57 pm

I will play for fun and send them along in another contest if I win. My guess would be Jacob Lake, AZ. It sounds like a very nice getaway from what I've read.
Thanks for the contest!

Well, I guess there aren't as many collectors of old Redbooks out there as I thought. (almost said old RedBook collectors, might not have gone over too well ) I think I'll go ahead and end this contest this evening if no one objects. Oops, no wonder..I forgot to mention the free St. Gaud....just kidding. If anyone else wants to guess get those guesses in! Can't say if I left AZ or not for my vacation, but in answer to why would anyone leave, we're in about our 12th year of drought so I have been considering it myself. Thanks for all your guesses so far.

Thanks for your participation. I think I'll go ahead and end this contest. Closest guess was Yellowstone. Second closest, Salt Lake City, and third, Provo. So, Kinte Smith wins first place, Ducky 1100 second, and Rigoletto third. If Kinte will post here in this thread his/her 4 RedBook choices, then Ducky his or her 3 choices of the remaining 5, Rigoletto will get the remaining 2. Then, if each person will email me with an address, I will get these books out as quickly as possible, hopefully Monday. Thanks so much for playing and congrats to the winners. Oh by the way, the town furthest north which I visited is called Jasper, Alberta in the Rocky Mountains of Canada north of Banff, Alberta. (maybe more people are familiar with Banff)
