I came across a 1997 City of Scarborough token on ebay, and remembered that I had these 2 tucked away in an old album years ago

1997-Toronto-Amalgamation-Commemorative-Tokens

1997-Toronto-Amalgamation-Commemorative-Tokens

These 2 are from the then City of Scarborough and City of North York, for $2 each I believe.

I've always wondered if the other cities that joined Toronto (East York, York, and Etobicoke) made these tokens as well. Does anyone have any clues?

These are called municipal trade tokens/dollars or souviner trade tokens/dollars.

Serge Pelletier ("er" is pronounced like "eh" in French) is the go to guy for these things and my book by him only goes up to '85 and they weren't making tokens for any of those places before or up to then.

All I can offer, hope that helps.

I will check out Pelletier's books when I get a chance...

I don't know if these cities made trade tokens before, but these 2 are made in 97 just before the cities merged on 1/1/1998.
