I am looking at purchasing an 1872-H 25 cent with what looks like a Repunched A. Sorry no pics of coin yet, hopefully on Sunday when I see the guy. The coin looks about or slightly above VF-20, but I can't seem to find information about this variety. The A looks like the photo on the coins and canada site

Based on the sites ebay price guide G-4's have sold around $370, is this correct/same variety? Does anyone have an idea on approximate value, as I could not find a comparable on ebay or Heritage? It seems like the A/V version sells for a good premium and have not seen a price on the repunched N.

Thanks in advance.

Charlton 2014 has a section on chinese fakes---biggest tell is on the reverse, above right bow ,missing stem to leaf 1.
date digits are are thick with a low large 2
bough ends are short

Charlton gives no value for double A or N so vf20 gives you $75. Many coins give no premium for re-punched letters---no market, no premium.

I love those doubles on the CC site---I would pay a premium.

The CCC site info of $370 is based on 2 sales----somebody really wanted them? Those average prices are certified coin sales on ebay, and have not been collected for very long---maybe 6 months?

did you mean Charlton 2015?
At this time I would not pay a large premium for this coin.
Now if it were the 25 Cent 1872 A/V, a different story.

Double punching is very prevalent on Victorian decimals, tread lightly. Most, unless dramatic, or recognized are great to study but not worth huge premiums.
