A couple of recent bargains to share:

LEO VI the WISE (886-912). Follis. Constantinople. 5.99g, 26mm.

Obv: + LЄOh bASILEVS ROM *.
Crowned Emperor enthroned facing, wearing loros, holding Book of Gospels and labarum.
Rev: + LЄOh | Єh ΘЄO bA|SILЄVS R|OMЄOh.
Legend in four lines.

Ref. Sear 1728.

Leo-VI-And-A-Phoenician.

PHOENICIA. Sidon. 'Abd'Ashtart I (372-358 BC). 1/16 Shekel. 0.87g, 8mm.

Obv: Galley left, waves below, phoenician letter "beth" above.
Rev: King standing right, fighting with rampant lion left, phoenician letter "ayin" between.

Ref. Klein 718.

nice val...i love a good bargain bin raid. I need a phoenician and that's a cool leo vi. it's a bit different that the usual variety of the coin, here' mine...the "vanilla" leo vi facing but not enthroned.

Yes, yours is Sear 1729 isn't it? That was the reference mine was incorrectly given by the seller actually. Yours is a very nice coin too. I have to get one of those now for contrast...

I got that Phoenician for £9, which is about $14 I think. Not bad..

val, yes 1729....i had to pull my coin out and look.

that's exactly what I was thinking...now I got to get one of these enthroned versions. I looked at vcoins, there are several like mine...from reasonably price to not so, but there is only one like yours. that's awesome you got that in the bargain bin, good find!

Two very nice coins. I particularly like the like the Leo 1728. The 1729 is the more common type
