Poll Question
Seeing the success of 'Valecrucis'c topic and the many beautiful/interesting coins displayed there it would be a shame to not have a themed topic when that topic finishes. So I wonder how many agree with this and would like to see a topic based on the the entries in one of Sear's books, ie either Roman Emperors starting with Augustus, Byzantine Emperors stating with Anastasius, or Regions for Greek coins (perhaps starting with Campania).
To avoid 'empty' days, emperors or regions with less than (say) a dozen coins could be added to the previous day.
Any comments welcome, especially to a potential starting day (maybe early next year).

We have done a Roman emperor one before but wouldn't mind doing another. I voted Greek even though I only have a very few Greek coins, I just love seeing them. Byzantine would be good too.

I've been asked to revive the Guess the emperor, king, queen, etc... again by some members. Whatever you all want works for me.

I'd like to keep them one or two at a time if only so I can keep up and so we can keep them going longer before repeating. I think Roman Emperors or Green localities could be interesting. We could also do mints, or 50 year periods (400-350 BC, 350-300 BC, etc).

I thought a game of contemporary coins. Someone posts a coin and someone else posts a coin close to the time of the OP coin and such. For example I post a Shapur I and coins of Gordian III, Valerian I, O. Severa, Philip the Arab etc etc etc. Something like that would be fun.

As long as it stirs up some discussion I'm fine with whatever. Just simply sharing coins over and over gets kind of old.

Valecrucis' topic is the alphabetical one right? I think it's intended to continue, to be honest (not that it's going to work very well since a lot of people here had posted their relevant coins already).
Contemporary coins as a topic would be funny (and, IIRC, was actually done at some point) but doesn't really work as a themed topic... you'd have to find people to start the next challenge instead of rolling the days automatically.
The problem with both Roman and Byzantine emperors is that there's almost nothing towards the end, and with Byzantines not much in many middle points too. Either we would have several coinless days in a row, or we'd have to put a dozen emperors in the same day (well, not really a dozen for the Romans but you get the point).
I suppose we could have a thread for centuries - first day coins from 7th century BC and earlier, next day coins from 6th century BC, then 5th and so on until 16th century AD. But that would be really short (23 days if I didn't miscount) - and any reasonable breakdown would again result in a lot of coinless days anyway.

I think the point that many of us will have posted a lot of our coins for the Alphabet game is a relevant one....so keeping it rolling for ever might not be a good idea after all. It could always be revived one day. Probably, it is best to end a good thing before it fades away. So I am very much in favour of replacing it with something new. I will be happy with whatever people choose...

we used to do these topics called "smackdowns", where we would pick a topic and show off coins. there were all sorts of topics, "buildings", "animals" , "medival vs. ancient", "opposites". there was a minor competition and the winners picked the next topic. may be good to revive that in some form. maybe reviving that is some form would be a good idea? maybe we can call them "coin showcases" or something like that.
I'm up for whatever.

I personally won't have any problems with just reviving the smackdowns the regular way. I liked them a lot back when they still existed (the topics were sometimes silly, but that really only made them better).

Now with the Z-day of the Alphabetic Thread having ended, is there anything else people want to do?
Having read the feedback, maybe the idea brought by 'january1may' might be workable. Personaly I don't think there would be any coinless day, except perhaps at the start. There should be coins from any century around.
Maybe someone with a coin from the 7th century BC could start and set the rules. From the 5th century onwards I can contribute. The only rule which should be included imo is that no coin posted in the last 30 days should be recycled.
Comments welcome.

Maybe we do something like that but only do centuries for the first 500 years (700-200) and then go down to every 50 years? And then crank it back up around 400 AD to every hundred? I think there will be plenty between 200 and 400 AD to do every 50, or even 25 years though.
Also the smackdowns were just ending when I got here, and those would be fun to see again.

I think there will be plenty between 200 [BC] and 400 AD to do every 50, or even 25 years though. I agree entirely (something like this is basically what I had in mind, though I might've split the dates differently). We might ramp it up again when we get to the 15th and particularly 16th century, when there's again a lot of coins to have - but "typical audience of this forum" and "CCFers interested in 16th century coins" doesn't seem to intersect much, unfortunately.
