I know this website is time tested, and well thought out, and this has probably been suggested many times before, but I thought I'd just throw my hat into the mix... What about a beginner forum? I don't know if that will make any sense to anyone, but for those just buying their first few coins it might be helpful to have a place to go for some direction and advice before jumping into a sea of highly experienced collectirs who may go off into subjects that would confuse a beginner. Sometimes beginners (like me) can be confused by banged up and toned coins being oggled over and called "lustrous" and "uncirculated". A forum where newbies can ask newbie questions without fear of looking unconversant or feeling . Just a thought...

Quote: it might be helpful to have a place to go for some direction and advice before This, I feel, is the purpose of the entirety of the CCF! Quote: A forum where newbies can ask newbie questions without fear of looking unconversant There should be NO fear of that here....

I agree, this is the CCF mission. No one should ever fear asking any question, ever.

No fear whatsoever about newbie questions...I asked some and always received replies that were very well put and never made me feel dumb...and I am sure I will ask many more! The community here is very willing to share knowledge and help us new folk learn.

Well, perhaps I'm mis-terming what I mean in part of my post. I'm not talking about another website for people brand new to the hobby, with no knowledge of numismatics. I'm saying how about another section for newbies. Like "Main Coin Forum", "Classic Coin Forum", "General Discussion Forum". Why not a "Beginner's Forum"? I don't know, but I would think the old timers here might have fun being able to go to a certain forum to answer questions that only brand new people would have. I.e. "Will this wire brush get the discoloration off this 1964 Peace dollar?" Again, just a thought.

Because beginners should ask the questions in the forums where that question is relevant. If they ask in the wrong forum, we move it. No harm, no foul. Keep in mind that not everyone has time (or desire) to visit all of the forums here at CCF. If we had one forum just for beginners, those questions might not get the attention from the more knowledgeable members who tend to frequent only a handful of areas. By the way, the new avatar looks good on you!

I see your point of view Jbuck, but I respectfully disagree. I've been a member of this forum website for over 5 years: http://www.cloudynights.com/page/index.htmland the beginner forum is always hoppin. Some of the long time, very experinced members ( people with degrees in physics, sciences, etc...) take it upon themselves to be constant advisors in the beginner forum. I would bet the same thing would happen here. P.S. I believe cloudynights has some 100,000+ members, and has been called "a model which all other forum based sites should follow". But what do I know...

Sorry but having thousands of threads in a beginner forum, with topic subjects all over the map, makes no sense whatsoever. It's deliberately disorganizing the forum.
The only thing I would consider is *maybe* having a forum for people not sure where a topic should go. But as soon as a Staff Member saw it, it would get moved to the correct forum. The problem with that is it would encourage laziness.

Eh, I personally don't think it's a good idea. CCF works well the way it is in my opinion.
