Does anyone here have any knowledge of communion tokens? I have quite a few that I acquired at the same time as my coin collection but was never really that interested in them until now.

Wow. That looks like a great collection of tokens. I have a two volume set of books on Canadian Communion Tokens, but really don't know enough to give any decent advice. Good luck!

Thanks, I think the majority if not all of these ones are Scottish, I'm doing some research myself, I might even try to find one of those books you have.

Do get those books. I see a couple I recognize & they're worth some decent $$. I sincerely hope they are not fakes. People collect for years & don't have a group like that. Nice.

What exactly are communion tokens? I know what communion is but, not being Catholic, or even Christian for that matter, the idea of needing a token or receiving a token at durring or after communion is lost on me.

These older, Scottish Presbyterian tokens were meant to be presented as proof that you had the right to take communion in the eyes of the church, excluding all but those of the true faith.

Lower right is Auchtertool Kirk; the reverse should have M AE, for Magister Andrew Eliot, minister from 1699-1745.

This may be the token at upper left, if the reverse has the KK for Kirkurd Kirk:

It doesn't have K K but Do.K not sure if it's from the same place though as it's 1709 rather than the 1769 one in your pic. I know the original image wasn't very clear after reduction, this one should hopefully be a little better. And thanks for all the info, you seem to have a good knowledge of these tokens.

You're some man Philadelphian, thanks again. Can I ask where you're getting these images? Is it a reference book you're using or is there a web based reference guide? As tomorrow I'm heading out to a few libraries and old book stores hoping to find one of my own but if there's somewhere online with the same information it would save me a few pounds.

Not all of these are in the Brook text. Perhaps for good reason...
