Hey all, I recently picked these up in a small collection, but Roman is not my area. Would any of you experts be able to help with IDs for these two? Denomination, text, Emperor, etc. and possible value? Much appreciated, and thanks in advance!

I apologize for the poor quality images as they are off of my phone.

They appear to be provincials of the emperor Hadrian. It just might be the pictures, but the first one looks fake. It looks crudely made and cast. The second might be OK but it still looks odd to me.

Thanks for the info, in hand they look fine to me but like I said not my area. No evidence of cast marks on the edges or anything like that, and they do seem quite well made. I'll see if I can get some better images now.

What 'echizento' said, both have Greek writing on them including dating, (L IB) and (L H) - and both look spurious.

In my opinion they are both modern casts. I know the second type and it is never that weakly struck (it usually has high relief) and the first has the rounded appearance of a cast.

I am a Julio-Claudian coin fanatic but some thing does not seem right with these coins. They should not light up like chrome on a 1950s Cadillac. That said I am a novice with provincial coins. Best of luck .

they look strange, flat features..style is kind of off. I would guess they were fake coins.

They are both Romano-Egyptian tetradrachms. The top one is Emperor Trajan, the second is Hadrian, I think. They are dated; "LIB" is Year 12, "LH" is Year 8.

As for authenticity, I would concur with the majority on the second one; the details look too "mushy". The first looks better, but I'm still not convinced it's good enough.

Thanks all for your comments, I must say I certainly didn't expect them to be spurious as I got them from a trusted friend in a group of coins. I can't seem to get better pics on my phone but when I locate my camera I will take some more to seal the deal. You guys are the experts, so what you say goes. Thanks again!
