Hey there everyone, I am inquiring about the certain finishes on Canadian coinage. Such as dates, proof, 1.UNC Brilliant Relief against Satin Background, 2.UNC Brilliant Uncirculated Finish against Brilliant Background, 3. UNC Brilliant Design, legends and Dates against a Brilliant Background, Specimen Finish. Please Just Experts Opinions, lets not start drama , However I have no authority over controlling this! In addition, add some ICCS coins of all the different grades and finishes. Remember this is a tool for all Collectors of Canadian coins, Beginner to Advanced! What we should add, the numerous ways in distuinguishing the different finshes and an example of each UNC. Hope we can all make this a strong thread, to teach others and ourselves... The information that you need is readily available if you have a couple of proper books or tools. I can highly recommend both the Regular and specialized Charltons for either 2014 or 2015. That should help!

yes that is where I usually look, however I would really like how a ICCS grader can distinguish between the UNC's and the MS.

You get up early tomorrow morning and call ICCS @ 416-488-8620 and ask for Brian or Scott. I am sure they will have time in their weekly schedule to have a little chat with you about this subject at hand. They charge about 11-12 bucks a coin plus return postage and insurance . I am not sure though on the hourly rates for telephone consultation. If you have coins to send to them the submission form is on the old Canadian discussion forum we all used to be on.

As a rough guideline, if you can see the reflection of your fingernail it's PL/BU. It's very helpful if you know which set it came out of though :-)

Have you tried a thorough search with the CCF search engine? Lots has been discussed here in the past, on this very topic...

Why not post some examples of what you are talking about, satin, proof, brilliant. Circulation, bullion, or NCLT.

My Charlton must be too outdated, I don't see any special finishes listed. I do have coins with specimen and matt proof finishes and I can try photoing them for you if you like.

sounds like a winner, I believe it is 2010 and up in the beginning of both the NCLT and decimal coinage books!

Mine is a '96 I picked up cheap at a used book sale. I'll take the photos tomorrow, since I can't make good photos in artificial lighting.
